Brittney Ahern?

I joined UCSD Hillcrest as a new graduate registered nurse in July 2022. I have a passion for helping and empowering patients at the bedside. At UCSD, I serve patients and families from diverse backgrounds, helping them to navigate a complex healthcare system through times of uncertainty.

While I have a keen eye for clinical changes and enjoy the rush of working in a high-performance team that works together to create positive clinical outcomes, my greater purpose is sowed in the soil of human connection. Taking advantage of opportunities to connect with a patient, caretaker, or colleague reminds me of the value of caring for others. I look beyond my unique relationship with each person to remember that they are someone’s daughter, husband, parent, grandparent, first kiss, best friend, or hero. This connection makes the care I give and the satisfaction I receive much more meaningful.

Some say it’s a scary time to work in healthcare, but I disagree; as we create post-pandemic norms and the practice of nursing shifts, I see the potential for the human connection to be a key factor that gives nurses a voice. One of our greatest resources in healthcare is people; a diverse team will offer a rich, rewarding, and fulfilling experience to our coworkers and our guests at UCSD moving toward the future. I look forward to growing with UCSD as we change the face of healthcare with innovations for years to come.
